Germany and Great Britain dominate the European offshore market

-  The latest figures of the European Wind Energy Association EWEA 
    show  a significant growth
-  SIAG sees competitive advantages for the German wind energy
   industry 

Dernbach, 8th August 2011 – Great Britain and - with a clear margin behind – Germany dominate the European market for offshore wind energy according to the latest figures of the European Wind Energy Association EWEA. Solely in the first six month 350 Megawatt have been connected to the grid. With a total installed capacity of 1.5 GW Great Britain is the world champion. Currently eleven wind projects are under construction all over Europe.

Rüdiger Schaaf, CEO of SIAG Schaaf Industrie AG, prospects particularly well future perspectives for the German industry: “First of all Germany will substantially catch up and with about 10 GW specifically reduce the gap towards Great Britain with 13 GW already in 2020. Secondly the projects realised in Great Britain so far are rather “nearshore“ than “offshore“. Especially in our segment – the production of foundation structures for deep waters and tubular steel towers as well as the manufacturing of substations – can qualitatively convince “Made in Germany“. From my point of view the German industry is technologically one step ahead in finding solutions for deep waters and already has experiences. Therefore we see a good potential for the future – also on the British market.”.
