Substations form the central element for the electricity supply from the wind turbine to the shore. Thanks to the expertise that our Nordseewerke subsidiary has gained with shipbuilding and modular design, we are able to ensure maximum delivery reliability while complying with IMO, MARPOL and SOLAS regulations.

Another benefit resulting from our shipbuilding experience is the shipyard’s equipment. The factory building features a movable roof structure and a traversing gantry crane. The components are then loaded onto the slipway using the gantry crane, where the complete substation is assembled and can be put into the water, ready for transport, much like launching a ship. This technique reduces the risks involved in loading to a bare minimum. Sizes of 30 x 30 m footprint and a capacity of 400 MW can be handled without any problems.

In addition to any modules required, SIAG Engineering takes care of determining a suitable foundation structure, which is also produced at the location and at the same time as the substation. Due to our experience in the on- and offshore wind energy industry the suitable foundation structure can be produced on site during the production so that the whole project can then be delivered to the slipway ready-for-transport as a complete package.
